Join Professor Jackson Monzón, PhD. for an engaging, immersive journey into the rich, diverse, and often hidden world of Jewish-Latin American literature.

From the early 20th century to today, this lecture brings an overview of the literary works of Jewish writers from Latin America, with a focus on those from Spanish‑speaking countries. Primarily a twentieth‑century phenomenon, Jewish‑Latin American literature spans themes from national concerns to spiritual journeys and questions of identity and belonging. Because of its rich and varied nature, it resists simple definition. The session highlights how these authors blend elements of Latin American magical realism with Jewish heritage to create stories that are heartfelt, imaginative, and deeply resonant. We'll also learn about the works of Alberto Gerchunoff, Isaac Goldemberg, Esther Seligson, and Teresa Porzecanski, among others.
