Music for Hispanic Heritage Month

Mariachi Los Amigos is a local music group sharing a passion for the celebratory sound of mariachi music, which originated from Mexico in the 19th century, and is still evolving in the 21st.

Mariachi Los Amigos was founded in 1979 and has continued to evolve over the years, playing everywhere from weddings and quinceañeras to the Kennedy Center and Presidential inaugurations. This version of Mariachi Los Amigos is a quartet. More info: http://www.mariachilosamigos.com/

Mariachi music emerged from the ranches and small towns of western central Mexico. As Mexico’s population became more and more urban in the twentieth century, so did mariachi music. Mexican radio, recordings, cinema, and television featured mariachi music, and the music spread to all corners of Mexico and beyond. The electronic media and immigration from Mexico has made mariachi music an important form of musical expression in the United States.

We've extended Hispanic Heritage Month by a week at the Wheaton Library for this performance. It will be held in the Social Hall, on the second floor.
