Build a DNA model from sweet, colorful candy!

Explore the building blocks of life in this fun and interactive STEM program! Participants will learn about the structure of DNA and how genetic information is organized—all while constructing their own colorful DNA models using candy.

As we twist, pair, and connect our sugary “nucleotides,” we’ll dive into concepts like base pairing, double helix design, and why DNA is so important to living things. This hands-on activity encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a sweet introduction to biology.

All materials are provided, and the program is perfect for budding scientists.

This program is for Middle and High Schoolers only. No registration required.

The Maryland STEM Festival is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics designed to advance STEM and STEAM education for children and teens that takes place every fall.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
