Join MCPL & Marylanders Online for an important tech lecture on avoiding common scams, especially those targeting older adults.
According to the National Council on Aging, "Scams targeting older adults are on the rise. In 2022, there were 88,262 complaints of fraud resulting in $3.1 billion in losses from people age 60+... This was a shocking 82.35% increase in losses compared to 2021." (December 2023)
Common scams targeting older people include government impersonation scams; sweepstakes scams; and robocall/phone scams. Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, stated, "Digital tools are making it easier than ever to target hard-working Americans."
