Do you want to practice your French? Improve your French vocabulary? Meet new Francophiles? Please join us to discuss the book "Le mage du Kremlin" by Giuliano da Empoli.

We meet in the Connie Morella Library Main Meeting Room to read and discuss books in French one Tuesday a month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

On May 21st, we'll discuss "Le mage du Kremlin" by Giuliano da Empoli .

Giuliano da Empoli, an Italian and Swiss writer and political scientist, brings us his first novel filled with real political insight and intrigue. "Le mage du Kremlin" is an acute and timely dissection of Russian power, told through the eyes of a shadowy political adviser to Putin. Its central character, Vadim Baranov, although inspired by a former adviser to Vladimir Putin, is almost entirely fictional. Through him, the author takes us into the inner circle of the Russian president, the oligarch Boris Berezovsky and other key figures in the Kremlin, such as the founder of the paramilitary organization Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin – individuals who are as famous as they are inaccessible, but whom the novelist can invoke and make speak as he pleases. This is where the book's "magic" comes from, and it works like a charm. Winner of the "Grand prix du roman de l'Académie Française 2022".
