Learn about how women fought and won the right to vote in the United States.
Come learn about the empowering history of how women fought for and won the right to vote in the United States. In Miss Paul and the President, we follow the story of Alice Paul who brought innovation, courage, and determination to help finish the fight and win women the vote. We will make a special suffrage themed craft and have some dress ups, so you too can be a Suff! We will explore local connections to the women's suffrage movement and see how this history is now being portrayed on stage in the musical Suffs! We'll watch a clip of the musical and send families home with a pocket version of the constitution.
Although this program is designed for children 6 years old and above, families are always welcome. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
About The Yellow Roses: The Yellow Roses is an organization that empowers young people to participate in their democracy, even if they are too young to vote. Since 2020, The Yellow Roses have been organizing community events that bring together families for service learning projects, non-partisan "get out the vote" events, social justice story times, and local park clean-ups. The name "The Yellow Roses" comes from the women's suffrage movement, when people wore yellow roses to demonstrate their support for voting equality.
