Join Vocales Verticales for an afternoon of poetry, writing, and ideas. How can we use poetry as a tool for resistance? Discover how others did it and write some poems.

Raúl Armando Zurita Canessa (born January 10, 1950) is a Chilean poet known for his innovative and politically engaged works. Zurita survived imprisonment and torture during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, experiences that deeply influenced his poetry. Zurita was awarded the Chilean National Prize for Literature, a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation, and he has held poetry readings at numerous American universities including Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Berkeley. His books in English translation include AnteparadisePurgatoryINRI, and Song for His Disappeared Love. He lives in Chile.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
