Learn about the Maryland legal process for changing your name and gender marker! Minors as well as adults are welcome. If you or someone you know is considering legally changing your name, even if you aren’t ready to do so in the near future, this name change clinic is a great resource to stop by, ask questions, and learn about the process. FreeState Justice, Maryland’s LGBTQIA+ civil advocacy nonprofit organization, is offering a free, confidential legal name change clinic with guidance, resources, and support for Maryland residents of all ages! The clinic date is Saturday, April 25, 2026, 2 PM - 4 PM at Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library. The program will take place in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is encouraged!
You can register with FreeState Justice in advance of the event by submitting an intake service request form. Attendees should note in the intake form that they will be participating in "McGee Library's Name Change Clinic." You will need to provide a Birth Certificate or a State-Issued ID and provide a Maryland address where you are comfortable receiving court-issued mail.

Celebrate Earth Month, meet live animals and earn SSL at Careers with Animals on Wednesday, April 1st at McGee Library, presented by Echoes of Nature! Elementary, middle & high school students discover exciting options for careers with animals! Free tickets required! Participants should arrive early to receive a ticket, tickets will be available at the 3rd Floor Tech Bar at 3:30 PM the same day. Program runtime is 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend.
