FreeState Justice is offering a FREE walk-in legal name change clinic to LGBTQ+ Maryland residents of all ages on Saturday, August 16th from 2pm-4pm in McGee Library's 3rd Floor Meeting Room! Not ready to go through the name change process? Come ask FreeState legal representatives your questions about the process and FreeState's other legal services, referrals and resources! This is also a wonderful opportunity for teens to drop in at a real legal clinic, earn SSL hours, enjoy snacks and learn about the FREE legal name change process and FreeState's other services and resources - which is valuable information to share as well with friends and peers!
Students FAIR ramps up with our monthly Teen Advocacy Training Series through October! No registration! Each session will focus on a different theme to help teens grow as advocates and organizers. Drop in, earn SSL hours, enjoy free snacks and attend as many sessions as you want! On Wednesday, September 24, join us for Testimony Writing Workshop + Story of Self! This session will guide teens through writing impactful testimonies that can be used in public hearings, lobbying visits, or campaigns. It’s all about learning how to convey your story as a tool for change! All Teen Advocacy Trainings will be held 4:00-6:00 PM in McGee Library's 3rd Floor Meeting Room.
Take a look at these resources for teens. You don't need a library card to attend programs, but you should get one to take advantage of hundreds of free resources from MCPL. We have recommended lists of books & authors for teens, test prep resources and other online resources for exploring careers or getting ready for college, information on volunteering or working in a library, and much more! Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.
Accommodation Requests
People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend. Contact the Assistant Facilities and Accessibility Program Manager at 240-777-0002 with all other accommodation requests.
