“The Rescue List portrays an artful balance of ethnography and visual poetry while it brings to light the overlooked reality of child labor and slavery in Ghana.” — SFFILM
In a a hidden rehabilitation safehouse in the Ghana forest, two children are recovering from enslavement to fishermen. But their story takes an unexpected turn when their rescuer embarks on another mission and asks the children for help. Charting the unfolding drama, The Rescue List tells a moving story of friendship and courage — transcending tropes of victimhood and illustrating what it means to love and survive. Directed by Alyssa Fedele and Zachary Fink who spent many months in the field building relationships with the rescue team, social workers and the children. They " chose to viscerally portray the under-represented personal experience of slavery through our protagonists’ day-to-day lives, rather than through the reductive lens of an issue-based advocacy film, which tends to focus solely on victimhood." The film was shown on PBS
The film is being shown in conjunction with House of Djeli Inc., a local organization dedicated to Pan-African culture. The films run time is 1 hour 20 minutes with discussion and refreshments to follow.
