Read to a Dog - In-person

Practice reading aloud and build your confidence during a one-on-one reading session with a certified therapy dog.

School age children (K-5th) are welcome to practice reading to a therapy dog. This program is designed to promote reading and relieve anxiety children may have when learning to read. Each reader will have ten minutes to read one-on-one with Kashew or Grayson, our certified therapy dogs! Sign up at the Information Desk starting at 5:30pm. Dogs and handlers are members of People Animals Love (PAL) or National Capital Therapy Dogs (NCTD).

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

Accommodation Requests

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend.
