Discover what the ornamental flowering cherry trees widely known as cherry blossoms mean to the Japanese and what their 1000-year-old cherry blossom viewing traditions are. Enjoy learning about how the iconic trees that surround the Tidal Basin came to Washington, D.C., how the National Cherry Blossom Festival that celebrates them evolved, and how to identify some of the different varieties that thrive in the national capital region.

Ann is the author of two books about flowering cherry trees, including Cherry Blossoms, the Official Book of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, published by National Geographic. She is also the author of a book about the bonsai at the U.S. National Arboretum. Among her many achievements, Ann is the recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays from the Government of Japan for her “exemplary contributions to promoting mutual understanding between Japan and the United States. . . “
