Dinosaur Park: Pop Up Museum!
at Quince Orchard Library
Wednesday, August 12
10:30am - 11:30am
Learn about life in Maryland 155 million years ago! Talk to an expert from an active fossil bed in PG County at this unstructured event.
Did you know that important dinosaur fossils are being uncovered right here in Maryland? Dinosaur Park in Prince George's County made headlines in 2023 when scientists unearthed a 3-foot-long shin bone there that is believed to come from an Acrocanthosaurus, a meat-eating dinosaur the same size as T Rex! The bone bed contains specimens from the early Cretaceous. Other discoveries at the site include fossils of Priconodon (a large armored dinosaur), teeth from Deinonychus (an agile hunter like Velociraptor), as well as fossils of plants and many aquatic animals like turtles, clams, stingrays, and crocodiles.
All ages are welcome to stop by to see fossils and speak to an expert from the park! This pop-up museum will be an unstructured event.
