Join Vocales Verticales for an afternoon of poetry and ideas. How can we use poetry as a tool for resistance? Discover how others did it, and write some poems. May is Asian American Heritage month!

Ocean Vuong is the author of several poetry collections, including Night Sky With Exit Wounds, which won the T.S. Eliot prize, among other awards. Born in Saigon and raised in Connecticut, he often explores themes related to transformation, desire, and violent loss, and many discussing the enigmatic figure of his father. This program is led by Carlota Roby, a human rights attorney and co-founder of the Vocales Verticales project. She is also a poet, and has published the poetry collections Las Manos de los Muertos (2013); Suburban Tales (2019); and Lilith (2024), available in our library catalog: https://staff-montgomery.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/catalogue/detail.pl?biblionumber=574868&found1=1

The program will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room, off the lobby on the first floor. 

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.

Accommodation Requests

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend.
