Chevy Chase resident, Christine Fallert Kessides, will present and read from her historical novel Magda, Standing (released 2023). The author will describe how she built on elements of her family's experiences to recreate this era, illustrating through photos and graphics the historical setting of Pittsburgh, attitudes towards women and immigrants, and the contrasting toll of the so-called Spanish flu vs. Covid-19.
