Master Gardener, Linda Barrett will share her knowledge of sustainable landscaping in Montgomery County.
This talk provides an introduction to the University of Maryland Extension, BayWise Sustainable Landscaping Certification Program, including the following topics: stormwater management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), use of native plants, planning to encourage wildlife, design and maintenance techniques, and avoiding invasive plants.
Speaker bio:
Linda Barrett became a Master Gardener in 2018, after 34 years as a Montgomery County Public Schools middle school teacher. She completed 12 additional hours of Bay-Wise Advanced training related to Sustainable Landscaping best practices. Linda co-chairs the Montgomery County Master Gardeners’ Bay-Wise committee and works with other committee members to perform certifications and consultations for Montgomery County residents’ landscapes. The mission of Bay-Wise is to encourage residents to control storm water runoff and reduce pesticide and fertilizer use, as well as increase the use of native plants to encourage wildlife.
