Disinformation: How To Recognize And Respond To It - presented by Truth In Common

Celebrating Active Aging Week - Registration Required

This three-part workshop will help participants understand what disinformation is, its impact on communities and democracy, and how to disrupt its spread, online and in conversation with others.

The sessions will be led by Truth in Common founder and president Deanna Troust. Troust is a consultant and entrepreneur with decades of expertise in inclusive social change, drawing on several years in partnership with disinformation researchers at New York University. Session One covers definitions and examples, and the science behind our vulnerability to falsehoods

Session Two introduces "prebunking," an evidence-based technique for innoculating ourselves from disinformation and helping others to do the same. Features a local reporter as guest speaker & tips for checking facts and sources

In Session Three, participants practice listening and "perspective taking" skills in conversing with others about topics of their choice

Registration is requested, as is participation in all three sessions as they build upon each other. All lived experiences and viewpoints are welcome!

Truth in Common is a nonpartisan educational nonprofit that offers community-based media/information literacy workshops in the greater Washington DC metro area, and beyond. Its mission is to restore fact-based decision-making and respectful discourse in the United States.
