Meet author and Virginia State Senator, Danica Roem, as she discusses her 2022 book, Burn the Page.
Danica Roem will discuss her book, answer questions, and sign copies of her book.
Virginia state Senator Danica Roem serves her lifelong home community of western Prince William County and the greater Manassas area in her seventh year as a member of the Virginia General Assembly. She spent more than nine years covering the area for the Prince William Times and Gainesville Times from 2006 - 2015 before working as the news editor of the Montgomery County Sentinel from 2015 until the end of 2016.
Senator Roem earned seven Virginia Press Association awards for her news reporting and twice placed as runner-up for the James S. Keat Freedom of Information award from the Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia Press Association. She also covered federal and state campaigns for The Hotline in Washington, D.C., fronted a heavy metal band from 2006-2015 and ran a mobile yoga studio set to a heavy metal soundtrack in 2014.
In 2017, Senator Roem earned election to the 13th District of the Virginia House of Delegates by unseating the self-described "chief homophobe" of Virginia to flip a seat from Red to Blue, becoming the first out-and-seated transgender state legislator in American history. She then earned re-election in 2019 and 2021 before winning election to the battleground 30th District of the state Senate in 2023. In 2022, Viking Books released her debut book: Burn the Page: A True Story of Torching Doubts, Blazing Trails, and Igniting Change.
