Mia McCullough performs a new solo piece that explores her experiences caring for her aging mother who struggled with cancer and an undiagnosed eating disorder. Recommended for ages 13+.

A daughter recounts her repeated attempts to get healthcare professionals to pay attention to her mother’s unacknowledged eating disorder and the ultimate failure of the healthcare system when her mother eventually dies of anorexia nervosa. Because it deals with the mature themes of cancer, eating disorders, and death, this performance is recommended for ages 13 and up.

Mia McCullough is a playwright, screenwriter/filmmaker, educator, performer, and producer. Her plays have been seen at theatres around the country including Steppenwolf, The Goodman, Stage Left Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, The Old Globe, and Red Fern Theater, as well as in London and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. McCullough created and co-produced The Haven, a web series centered around the staff and clients of a domestic violence shelter. Season 1 of The Haven is now playing on OTV - Open Television.

McCullough has taught playwriting and screenwriting at Northwestern University, Carthage College, and the University of Illinois - Chicago, as well as playwriting classes at Chicago Dramatists and workshops in Chicago Public Schools.
