Women in the History of Classical Guitar

Join Dr. Candice Mowbray for a live performance and to learn about women's contributions to classical guitar.

In a presentation that includes discussion, listening and live performance, Dr. Candice Mowbray shares the accomplishments and contributions of women as players and composers throughout the history of the classical guitar. Beginning with Francesca Caccini (1587-after 1641) and ending with the Grand Dames of the Guitar in the 20th century, this informative presentation both enlightens and entertains–and you don’t have to be a guitarist to enjoy learning about great these players and music.

Appearing as a soloist, chamber musician and guest lecturer, Candice Mowbray has been a featured artist for festivals and concerts series in Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington DC, Baltimore and Los Angeles. She earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts in classical guitar performance from Shenandoah Conservatory, and has taught for several colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region. Her recent CD, Reverie, was named a Top 10 Pick of the Year by Classical Guitar Magazine and has been featured on radio programs including “In Tune” on BBC Radio 3, and her writings have been published in magazines such as Soundboard and Prodigies.
She also is an instructor of music at Hagerstown Community College.

Ms. Mowbray is sponsored by Marlow Guitar International.
