Ellen Prentiss Campbell grew up in Rockville, Maryland. She signed for her first library card as soon as she could print. She later returned with her husband, and their family grew up walking distance from the Rockville Libraries (both “Old” and “New”). A graduate of Smith College, Simmons School of Social Work, and The Bennington Writing Seminars, she practiced psychotherapy for many years. Her new novel, a family epic, Vanishing Point (May 2026, Apprentice House Press, Maryland) explores the art and turbulent family life of Pennsylvania painter George Hetzel. Prior work includes Frieda’s Song (set at the Chestnut Lodge Psychiatric Hospital). Ellen’s novels and short stories have garnered awards and recognition, but best of all – readers. Blogging for The Washington Independent as Girl Writing, she is a member of the National Book Critics Circle. Ellen loves libraries, book clubs, bookshops and travel.
