Join the African American Authors group to read and learn about books by authors of African, Caribbean, and African American descent. This group meets on the 4th Sunday of the month at Germantown Library. This month the group is discussing Happy Land by Dolen Perkins-Valdez.  Happy Land is a 2026 NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Literary Work - Fiction. Happy Land by Dolen Perkins‑Valdez follows Nikki, a D.C. real estate agent who returns to rural North Carolina at her grandmother’s request. There, she uncovers the story of her ancestor Luella—a queen in an all‑Black mountain community founded after Emancipation—and fights to preserve her family’s land and legacy. A multigenerational exploration of resilience, identity, and the power of ancestral ties. 

This event will take place in the Group Meeting Room 5 on the lower level.
