Seasons of Change with American Girl

A Special Pop-Up Exhibit from The Changnon Family Museum

Join us as we explore the beloved "Changes" stories from the first seven American Girl Historical Characters.

Every season brings change, and for the American Girl Historical Characters, winter marked a time of growth, reflection, and new beginnings. Join Blake Changnon and The Changnon Family Museum of Toys and Collectibles as we explore the beloved Changes stories from the first seven Historical Characters.

This mini-museum brings to life the sixth and final book in each character's original six-book journey. Through rare and original artifacts from the museum's collection, visitors will discover how each girl faced unexpected challenges, embraced new opportunities, and found the strength to move forward with hope and confidence.

Whether coping with loss, welcoming new family members, rebuilding after hardship or learning to see the world in a new way, each Historical Character discovered that change is a natural part of life. Along the way, every girl grew in courage, compassion and resilience, finding that even life's most difficult moments can lead to new beginnings.

This exhibit is hands-off to help preserve these rare, one-of-a-kind items from the museum's collection. Visitors of all ages are welcome, as long as museum etiquette is observed; however, we recommend this experience for ages nine and up.

Come discover how seven remarkable girls learned to embrace life's seasons of change, and how their journeys continue to inspire readers with hope, resilience and the promise of new beginnings.

This exhibit is independently curated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by American Girl or Mattel.

Registration is required for this event, and will open on November 1, 2026. Registrants will have the opportunity to view the collection and walk through the exhibit. Groups will be contacted prior to the event with an assigned fifteen minute time slot to walk through the collection. Requests as to timeslots will be honored when possible, but are not guaranteed. Same day walk-ins will be permitted as time and space allows. As part of County Government, MCPL does not collect personal information other than for the purpose of providing programs or services.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.
