Start Vinyl Day with the vibrant heartbeat of Brazil!

Join percussionist Dee Hale for an energetic introduction to Brazilian drumming traditions. This interactive session covers the fundamentals of batucada, the driving rhythmic style found in Rio de Janeiro’s world-famous carnival. Dee will guide participants through approachable starter rhythms and gradually build toward a full, lively groove. 

Throughout the session, Dee thoughtfully shares cultural context and insights into these musical traditions as a dedicated non-Brazilian practitioner committed to honoring and accurately representing the art and culture of Brazil. 

Vinyl Day: Just for the Record is a day dedicated to Record and DJ culture in Montgomery County. This free family-friendly music festival featuring workshops, speakers and more! This event is generously sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County Inc. (FOLMC).

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
