Treacherous Beauty: Peggy Shippen, the Woman behind Benedict Arnold's Plot to Betray America
Tuesday, July 21
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Join us and learn about Peggy Shippen and their plot to capture George Washington during the revolutionary war!
In the year of our 250th anniversary of American independence, we will learn about Peggy Shippen - a 19 year old society girl from Philadelphia eho concocted a scheme that could have let the British capture George Washington and win the American Revolution. Obviously, the scheme failed, but it changed her life forever, and that of her husband, Benedict Arnold. Also, it brought premature death to her former boyfriend, John Andre, a British officer. Learn all about Peggy Shippen, at a talk by Stephen Case, co-author of Treacherous Beauty: Peggy Shippen, the Woman behind Benedict Arnold's Plot to Betray America. Case, a retired lawyer, has for over 35 years enjoyed a hobby of learning everything he can find about Peggy Shippen. The co-author, Mark Jacob, is the retired metro editor of the Chicago Tribune.
Join us for this talk co-sponsored by Bethesda Metro Area Village, a local volunteer organization with more than 500 social, educational, health, and cultural activities each year to help keep neighbors independent, active, and connected. Go to www.bmavillage.org, to learn more about how you can help your neighbors with rides, light home repair, friendly visits or technology assistance as a volunteer, or benefits of membership.
