Sketching for Manga and Comics
at Gaithersburg Library
Thursday, July 16
5:00pm - 6:00pm
Teens and tweens can join us for this fun and informative session about how to draw characters for comic books and manga!
Calling all artist and manga/comic fans! Join artist John Watkins-Chow for this workshop about what goes into sketching figures for use in comics and manga. Sketch alongside John while he talks about his process and answers your questions. All skill levels are welcome, no prior drawing experience necessary, willingness to explore and discover is a must!
John Watkins-Chow was born in New Jersey and ended up with three degrees from MIT. He has been doodling his whole life and has been fortunate to work in animation, comics, and sketch card art on properties such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and a host of Marvel Comics characters including Spider-Man, the Avengers, & X-Men. Recently, his marker art has appeared on sketch cards for Upper Deck's Avengers Vs X-Men, Marvel Beginnings, Secret Wars, Avengers Skybox Metal, & DC Annual sets. Very, very occasionally, he works on his own comic, Talismen—which increasingly looks like it will be his project in retirement. During the day, John teaches high school math & physics in a private school in Rockville.
