Middle school students (grades 6-8) are invited to join a 4 week discussion of Not Nothing by Gayle Forman. Participants will be joined by senior volunteers from the JCA Heyman Interages Center, bringing together readers of a wide age range to develop book evaluation and discussion skills. Attendance at all 4 sessions plus completion and presentation of a Reflection project will earn students 8 SSL hours.
Not Nothing is the story of Isaac who is assigned community service at an assisted living facility, after doing something terrible. He meets Josey, a 107 year old Holocaust survivor. Their interactions have a profound influence on each other in a story of kindness and forgiveness.
Registration is required and is limited to 12 participants, who must meet grade level requirements.
