2nd Annual Mock Mah Jongg Tournament - In-person

No-Pressure tournament fun!

Do you wonder what it would be like to play in a mah jongg tournament but afraid that it might be too competitive, too stressful, too anxiety-provoking? Then this is the tournament for you!

We will be playing American mah jongg according to National Mah Jongg League rules with one major exception: HANDS CANNOT BE CALLED DEAD. If you make a mistake, no big deal. This tournament is geared to be low-stress, low-anxiety, and lots of fun.

If you’re worried that you’re not good enough or fast enough, rest assured that you don’t need to be good or fast. If you know how to play, you’re good enough. And there are no time limits on games. We will be rolling dice to break the wall. If you’re not sure how to do that, no worries — we will teach you. If you don’t know how to score, no worries — we will review scoring beforehand.

Why should you register? Because it will be fun and there will be prizes. Space is limited, so sign up soon!

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.

Accommodation Requests

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend. Contact the Assistant Facilities and Accessibility Program Manager at 240-777-0002 with all other accommodation requests.
