Manga Tasting Bar: Graphic Novels and Manga Sampler

MoComCon Lead-Up Event

New to manga? Start here. Sample manga and graphic novels, rate favorites on a tasting passport, get recommendations from teen hosts, and place holds for a next series. Drop in and enjoy!

Join us to try a low-pressure book tasting with manga (Japanese comics) and graphic novels. Sample a little from a lot of titles, figure out what you like, and choose what to read next. Manga beginners and graphic novel readers are both welcome.

How the tasting works:

• Pick up a Tasting Passport.
• Browse sections organized by genre and vibe.
• Sample a few pages from several titles to compare art style, pacing, and story tone.
• Mark favorites on the passport using quick checkboxes and notes.
• Place holds or check out titles with help from staff and teen hosts.
• Turn in the passport for a take-home bookmark while supplies last.

Teen Advisory Board members will host the tasting bar, answer questions, explain manga reading direction, and recommend easy first picks. Leave with a next series lined up.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend.
