Friday, October 17th: SMYAL's Poetry Night - Earn SSL hours by co-designing library programs at this event and helping with cleanup and takedown after the event! Pull up for a night of vibes, creativity, and real talk! Spit your own poems, drop some spoken word, share your fave lines, or just come vibe and cheer folks on. No pressure, all love. Whether you’re a first-time writer or a pro with the pen, this night is all about your voice being heard! Hosted with Young Playwrights' Theatre.

Friday, November 21st: SMYAL's Zine Workshop - Earn SSL hours by co-designing library programs at this event and helping with cleanup and takedown after the event! Come through and get creative! Learn how to make your own mini-magazine (also known as a zine) to share your art, stories, doodles, and big ideas. We’ll have all the supplies, just bring your imagination! No experience needed, just good vibes and self-expression. Hosted with Young Playwrights' Theatre.

Friday, December 19th: SMYAL's Friendship Mixer - Meet new people, play games, and vibe with folks in a fun, welcoming space! Whether you’re looking to make new friends or just hang out, this mixer is all about good energy, laughter, and making new connections.

All events will take place in the 3rd Floor Community Rooms.

Looking for more things to do at MCPL? On Wednesday, October 15 from 4 PM to 6 PM, drop in and bring your friends for free snacks & Know Your Rights Training with Students FAIR, in McGee Library's 3rd Floor Meeting Room! Teens will learn about their rights in schools, during protests, and in interactions with ICE or law enforcement. This training is designed to help teens feel more informed and prepared!

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.

Accommodation Requests

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend. Contact the Assistant Facilities and Accessibility Program Manager at 240-777-0002 with all other accommodation requests.
