McCray, blends his personal journey — from the streets of Baltimore to journeyman electrician to the Maryland Senate — with a practical guide on how mentorship, skilled trades, and second chances can change lives. This program will share lessons learned, strategies for opening doors, and a candid conversation on turning grit into opportunity. The session will include a discussion, audience Q&A, and reflections on how communities can build stronger pathways for the next generation. The conversation will be moderated by Maryland Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins. 

Maryland Senator Cory McCray will be signing his autobiography, The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life. The book will be available at the event for purchase from Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. (FOLMC) or by visiting www.bookshop.org/shop/folmc
