Kick off the 2025 Montgomery County Public Library Summer Reading Challenge with the Chevy Chase Library!

Get ready to Color Our World and join us at for a Kickoff to our Summer Reading Program that's bursting with fun for all ages! 

Kick off the 2025 Montgomery County Public Library Summer Reading Challenge by celebrating the power of reading, art, and community. We'll have special stations for every age group, so whether you're a budding bookworm, a curious kid, a creative teen, or an inspired adult, there's a colorful and creative project for you! Free and open to all - come ready to read, create, and color your world this summer!

Afternoon event 2:00-4:00pm:

• Register for the Summer Reading Challenge and get a free book!
• Cool off with a complimentary shave ice from Clayboys whose truck will be on site!!!
• Crafts for Kids-- Make a Rocking crab, design a crayon, and help decorate the Children's room with coloring pages!
• Activities for Teens and Adults-- Abstract Painting, fold an origami crab, work on a group library jigsaw puzzle, color a giant mandala, help create a hot-air balloon wall poster! 
• Scavenger Hunt-- Search for pictures of Artie the crab hidden around the Children's Room! Find them all and get a prize!
• Bubbles on the lawn and sidewalk chalk drawing!

Two Milkshake Concerts-- pick one! Concert attendance will be limited. Free tickets will be distributed 30 minutes before the program at the Information Desk, on a first-come-first-served basis. 

• First Concert: 2:30-3:00pm (CLICK HERE for more info!)

During the Kickoff event, library staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions about the program, assist with sign-ups, and provide materials for those who register. Can't make the event? Sign-up (or log in) online or at your local library starting May 15, and begin logging your reading, activities, and pick up your free book starting June 14.

The Milkshake concerts are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Chevy Chase Library.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.

Accommodation Requests

People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should request English-language captioning or sign-language interpretation at least five days before the library-sponsored program they plan to attend.
