Join us to discuss Jean Dudek's book "The Scent of Bright Light", a biblical retelling of Sarah, Abraham, and Hagar through the thoughtful and creative voice of Sarah. Q & A and book signing.
The Scent of Bright Light reimagines of the story of the Biblical matriarch Sarah through the lens of her relationship with Ta-Sherit, the Egyptian girl she loves and raises like a daughter, while others call the girl “Hagar” and shrug her off as a servant. In her own voice, Sarah tells the story of her life with Abraham, her time in Pharaoh’s harem, her struggle with infertility, her expertise as a midwife, and what she and Abraham thought would happen if he sacrificed their son. The biblical text becomes a new story when it comes from Sarah in her own voice.
Jean K. Dudek is a Teaching Assistant at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. She received her Master of Theological Studies degree, with honors, with a concentration in biblical studies from Wesley and her Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of Law. She is a graduate of Smith College. The Scent of Bright Light is her first novel.
Mrs. Dudek's book is available for purchasing through the digital store of the Friends of the Library of Montgomery County.
