Interested in joining? The Book Club meets the second Thursday of each month from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, meeting room 2. We'll talk over the book "Manhattan Beach" by Jennifer Egan.
The book chosen for this month's discussion is "Manhattan Beach", a historical novel by American writer Jennifer Egan. It takes place during the World War II era and tells the haunting and propulsive intertwined stories of heroine Anna Kerrigan, the Brooklyn Navy Yard's only female diver, her father Eddie Kerrigan, who works for both the union and the mob, and nightclub owner Dexter Styles, Eddie's complex and charismatic boss. Follow Anna and Styles into a world populated by gangsters, sailors, divers, bankers, and union men. With the atmosphere of a noir thriller, "Manhattan Beach" is a deft, dazzling, propulsive exploration of a transformative moment in the lives and identities of women and men, of America and the world. It was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and was chosen as New York City’s One Book One New York read.
