Calling all readers in grades 4-6: welcome to the 2nd year of a book club just for you! We'll start with an action-packed thriller about a girl whose family keeps moving and changing her name!
If you are in grades 4, 5 or 6 and love to read and have fun talking about books and characters, No Shelf Control is the place for you! To start our second year, we'll read "Concealed" by Christina Diaz Gonzalez, the story of Joanna (well, the next day, she's Katrina!) whose family is in the Witness Protection Program and constantly moving to avoid danger. If that wasn't enough, she can't remember anything from before an accident she was 10. Follow her as she struggles to learn about her past, make friends and lead as much of a normal life as she can, and figure out who exactly she really is. In conjunction with Hispanic American Heritage month, the book is both by a Cuban-American author and features a Cuban-American main character. "Concealed" was the 2022 winner of the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best Children's Mystery.
You can borrow a copy (with a specially prepared reading guide just for our group) from the Connie Morella Library; just ask at the Check Out or Information Desks for the September book for No Shelf Control. You can also access the book as an e-book or audiobook on Hoopla, one of the library's free apps. If you get an e-version, please contact Mr. Jeff for the reading guide (jeffrey.coster@montgomerycountymd.gov). Even if you are not able to finish the reading, please come anyway and see if No Shelf Control might just be the place for you! The book for the October 16 meeting will be handed out at this meeting, and then available to pick up from the Connie Morella Library by anyone who missed it.
Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
