First, we'll watch award winning spoken word artist, Regie Cabico's performance of his coming-of-age story My Hoprah. With sharp character dialogue and comedic timing, hear how Regie, a young Filipino American boy, growing up in Southern Maryland, escaped the silver queen cornfields and hold of his Catholic immigrant mother after being inspired to move to New York City by the movie Fame.

Regie Cabico, the “Lady Gaga of Poetry”, is a spoken word pioneer having won The Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam and later taking top prizes in three National Poetry Slams. His television credits include 2 seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, NPR’s Snap Judgement & MTV’s Free Your Mind. As a theater artist, he received three New York Innovative Theater Award Nominations for his work in Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind with a win for Best Performance Art Production.

For teens ages 12 to 17 years.
