Music, story, and ancestral song celebrate the native peoples of the Chesapeake Bay

Caroline Ferrante is a nationally acclaimed, award-winning songwriter and actor, who uses music and drama to celebrate her indigenous roots, and the native peoples of the Chesapeake Bay. Ferrante leads culturally responsive residencies as a national teaching artist with the Wolf Trap Foundation, as well as Young Audiences of Maryland and the Everyman Theatre. Ferrante's grandmother was a hunter and trapper of Potawatomi and Pawnee descent. Through her story, ancestral song, and steady rhythm, we will celebrate our land— built on the ancestral hunting ground of many First Nations. Participants will “catch” things using imagination, embody animals through dramatic play, and experience how local/native animals represent virtues that can speak to us today. This program is intended for children in pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade, accompanied by a caregiver. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County.
