Cantor Joel Lichterman, of the Chizuk Amuno Congregation in Baltimore, joins us to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising during World War II.

We are honored to present our speaker, Cantor Joel Lichterman of Chizuk Amuno Congregation in Baltimore. This event commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and recent Jewish-American Heritage Month. Cantor Lichterman will speak about his father - holocaust survivor, Cantor Jakub Lichterman's experience and participation in the Warsaw uprising.  The 1943 uprising was one of the most heroic acts of Jewish resistance against the Nazis. By that time, the Jews that remained in the ghetto knew of the coming round ups and ultimate deportation to the death camps of Treblinka and elsewhere.

There are many forms of resistance and tyranny, not just physical acts. Lessons can be gleaned in the face of what might appear to be "hopeless" resistance.  Such courage can inspire future generations and learn the lesson that freedom sometimes comes at a high cost.
