Without Katharine Wright (1874-1929) , Orville & Wilbur may not have found their place in history. It is time Katharine is restored to her proper place alongside Wilbur & Orville! Sponsored by FOLMC.
Katharine Wright (1874-1929) never achieved the notoriety of her famous siblings, Orville and Wilbur, but without her, they may never have attained their place in history. As the only sister among her siblings, Katharine was forced to take on the role of housekeeper and factotum mother at age 14 when Mrs. Wright died. Despite being raised in a very strict household— her father was a bishop in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ— Katharine went on to graduate from Oberlin College with a degree in classics, become a high school teacher, actively support the women’s suffrage movement, and still play a pivotal role in promoting the accomplishments of the brilliant yet introverted Orville and Wilbur. She put her life on hold many times to come to the aid of her brothers and it’s time that Katharine is restored to her proper place in history alongside Wilbur and Orville. Sponsored by FOLMC.
