Dr. Matthew Costello, Vice President of the White House Historical Association, will speak on President Theodore Roosevelt and his influence on the White House.

This presentation explores the influence and impact of Theodore Roosevelt, Edith Roosevelt, and their children on America’s most famous home, the White House. During their occupancy, the Roosevelts transformed the Executive Mansion with a major renovation and household restructuring. The family’s need for private space also led to the building of the West Wing, which shifted the workplace of the presidency out of the mansion itself. Finally, media interest in the Roosevelts set a new standard for future relationships between the first family and the American people.

Co-hosted with Bethesda Metro Area Village. BMAV is a volunteer organization providing services and community support to allow people to remain in their homes as they age.
