Join us for an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, an integral part of the social and cultural life of Ethiopia.
Join us for an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, an integral part of the social and cultural life of Ethiopia. According to legend, Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder, first discovered coffee around 600 B.C.E. It was growing wild and he was amazed to see how animated it made his herd. Until the middle of the Seventeenth Century coffee had not been cultivated outside Ethiopia.
Lene Tsegaye of the Kefa Café in Wheaton will perform the ceremony. We will watch as she arranges her utensils, grinds and brews the beans, and serves the beverage as a traditional mark of hospitality and friendship. The Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony is aimed at bringing about a transformation of the spirit.
The ceremony will last about a half hour, after which Lene will answer questions.
