For kids in 4th - 7th grade and their grownups.
KIDS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
In our Social Justice Book Club, 4th-7th graders and their parent/caregiver will read or listen to a book dealing with a social issue we are facing in the world today, and discuss what we, as families, can do about it.
NEW this month! We will be including an optional Take, Make, and Meet craft! 14 days before the date of the book club, an email will be sent to all registrants to schedule a time to pick up your special craft!
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are reading and discussing Canned and Crushed by Bibi Belford. In this charming and humorous debut novel, soccer-loving Sandro Zapote comes up with a way he can help his parents save money for his sister's heart surgery while also saving the environment, and maybe even saving some extra money for a fast new bike. This story uses a delicate touch to explore issues related to illegal immigration, unemployment, racism, and bullying.
You can place the book on hold and pick it up with our Holds to Go contactless pickup. You can also get a digital copy here using Overdrive or here with Hoopla.
