Enjoy an afternoon of stories and crafts in honor of Women's History Month!
History is filled with stories of brave, inspiring women. Join us for a special storytime and craft in honor of Georgia Gilmore, a hidden figure of the civil rights movement. Featuring the book Pies from Nowhere: How Georgia Gilmore Sustained the Montgomery Bus Boycott by Dee Romito, children will learn the story of Georgia Gilmore who organized the Club from Nowhere and cooked and baked to fund-raise for the bus boycott. There will be a playdough activity and crafts to accompany the story.
This is a free family event, appropriate for all ages. No registration needed.
About The Yellow Roses: The Yellow Roses is an organization that empowers young people to participate in their democracy, even if they are too young to vote. Since 2020, The Yellow Roses have been organizing community events that bring together families for service learning projects, non-partisan "get out the vote" events, social justice story times, and local park clean-ups. The name "The Yellow Roses" comes from the women's suffrage movement, when people wore yellow roses to demonstrate their support for voting equality.
Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
