Trumpeter, composer, jazz historian, and author Muneer Nasser explores the rich history of jazz through live music, rare recordings, and interactive demonstrations. Rediscover jazz's blues roots.
Muneer Nasser has a long, rich history in the jazz field starting as a teenager attending the The International Art of Jazz Workshop in the late 70s. The son of jazz bassist Jamil Nasser, he progressed from there to jam sessions with jazz luminaries like Lou Donaldson and others at venues like the Jazz Center and the Village Gate in New York. Following graduation from Howard University, he immersed himself in the thriving jazz scene throughout the DC area with performances at Blues Alley and the Kennedy Center, among others, and overseas, including throughout Africa, Europe, including the UK, where he played with Courtney Pine and many others.
His recent CDs include The Blue House Sessions, with his quintet, and A Soldier's Story, a companion piece to his book, Upright Bass: The Musical Life and Legacy of Jamil Nasser, a musical tribute to his father, the late great bassist Jamil Nasser.
Muneer has taught at many educational institutions, teaching master classes and giving lectures in Kassel, Germany, the Frankfurt Book Fair, JJA Academy London, Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Jazz Education Network Conference, and The Frank Islam Symposium at Montgomery College. He is currently developing a documentary about Memphis jazz and blues.
