Join award-winning local author Hena Khan as she shares her journey growing up as an American Muslim in Montgomery County. Hena gradually found her voice by writing relatable stories that highlight aspects of her background, culture, and traditions, and believes in the power of books to connect us all.
This program is targeted toward children in preschool through elementary school, with their caregivers.
The first 100 people to attend, will receive a copy of Hena Khan's new picture book Bhangra boogie. Optional author signing will conclude the event.
About the Author:
Hena Khan has been publishing books for children for over two decades. She writes award-winning picture books, middle grade fiction, pick-your-path adventures, and graphic novels. Her stories are often centered around her culture, community, friendship, and family, and draw from her own experiences. Hena’s bestselling novels include Amina’s Voice and More to the Story. She is also the author of the Zayd Saleem Chasing the Dream, Zara’s Rules, and Super You! series. Hena’s picture books include Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns and Under My Hijab. Hena lives in her hometown of Rockville, Maryland.

Library Program Attendance (both virtual and in the branch) is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program. Children attending an MCPL program under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults attending a program intended for children must have an accompanying child.
If you plan to attend with a group of ten or more, please contact the branch at least one week before the program to discuss how your group might be accommodated.
