Learn about the untold stories and lesser-known tales of Montgomery County!

NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BUT SEATING IS LIMITED. Hope you can join us!

Q&A and light refreshments to follow. Copies of Myers' book will be available for purchase/signing.

You may be aware that F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the most influential novelists of the 20th century, along with Rachel Carson, famed biologist/conservationist, are buried in Montgomery County, but what are some other intriguing stories from the county's illustrious past? Join BRIAN MYERS, author of Hidden History of Montgomery County, Maryland, to learn about these untold but equally fascinating tales... that occurred right in our backyards.

For example, did you know:

--President George Washington owned Woodstock, a farm near Poolesville, during his presidency?

--Josiah Henson, who inspired author Harriet Beecher Stowe, was a passenger and conductor of the Underground Railroad?

--And more recently, that Montgomery County served as a site for a low-budget horror movie, which ended up becoming one of the most financially successful movies of all time?

Brian will also share his personal genealogy journey, which started when he was in elementary school. As a result of his dedicated research, he now has a working family tree of more than twenty-five thousand members! We hope this may help inspire you to start your own genealogy adventures.

AUTHOR BRIAN MYERS graduated from the University of Maryland in May 2023 and currently works as a business and technology operations analyst. While at UMD, he majored in information systems & marketing and studied screenwriting under three-time Emmy winner Michael Olmert. His first book, a travel guide called Greater than a Tourist—Gaithersburg, Maryland, was published in 2020 when he was nineteen years old.

Sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, MD, Inc.
