You may be aware that F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the most influential novelists of the 20th century, along with Rachel Carson, famed biologist/conservationist, are buried in Montgomery County, but what are some other intriguing stories from the county's illustrious past? Join BRIAN MYERS, author of Hidden History of Montgomery County, Maryland, to learn about these untold but equally fascinating tales... that occurred right in our backyards.
For example, did you know:
--President George Washington owned Woodstock, a farm near Poolesville, during his presidency?
--Josiah Henson, who inspired author Harriet Beecher Stowe, was a passenger and conductor of the Underground Railroad?
--And more recently, that Montgomery County served as a site for a low-budget horror movie, which ended up becoming one of the most financially successful movies of all time?
Brian will also share his personal genealogy journey, which started when he was in elementary school. As a result of his dedicated research, he now has a working family tree of more than twenty-five thousand members! We hope this may help inspire you to start your own genealogy adventures.
