Students in grades 6-8 are invited to a 4 week virtual intergenerational book group held in association with the JCA Heyman Interages Center. SSL hours will be earned if requirements are met.
Create connections with older adults from the Jewish Council for Aging's Heyman Interages Center through a multiweek discussion of The Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers. Participants can earn 8 SSL hours if they attend all 4 sessions, participate in the discussion, and present and submit a short Reflection piece. Participants will use the book to foster discussion, develop book evaluation skills, and comfort speaking with non-family member adults.
The Eyes and the Impossible, winner of the 2024 Newbery Award, is the story of a dog named Johannes. He lives in an urban park by the sea, seeing all, missing nothing, and reporting what he sees to the park’s three ancient Bison, the Keepers of the Equilibrium. But the Equilibrium has been disrupted..
Copies of the book can be obtained at any MCPL branch. An E-book version is available through Libby.
Registration is required and is limited to 16 participants, who must meet grade level requirements.
