Join us for a foreign film screening the second Sunday of each month. This month's film is The Monk and the Gun.
The Monk and the Gun is a 2023 drama directed, written and co-produced by Pawo Choyning Dorji. In 2006, as Bhutan prepares to hold its first democratic election, the Bhutanese government stages a mock election to train the Bhutanese people on how to participate in a democracy. Against this backdrop, a Buddhist lama (spiritual leader) instructs a young monk to procure for him a firearm. Meanwhile, an American visitor arrives in Bhutan to acquire an antique rifle for a collector. By chance, the antique rifle falls into the monk's hands. (1 hr 51 min. PG-13)
