Calling all readers in grades 4-6: welcome to the 2nd year of a book club just for you! Join us this month for a story about overcoming adversity, building friendships, and surviving 6th grade!

If you are in grades 4, 5, or 6 and love to read and have fun talking about books and characters, No Shelf Control is the place for you! This month, we'll discuss "The Way I Say It" by Nancy Tandon, the story of sixth-grader Rory Mitchell's efforts to deal with a speech impediment that makes it difficult for him to say his own name. If that weren't enough, entering middle school has changed Rory's relationship with his best friend. The book is currently a nominee for the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Award for Best Children's Novel for 2024-2025.

You can borrow a copy (with a specially prepared reading guide just for our group) from the Connie Morella Library; just ask at the Check Out or Information Desks for the December book for No Shelf Control. You can also access the book on one of the library's free e-book apps, either as an e-book or audiobook on Hoopla, or as an e-book or audiobook on Libby (Libby may only allow a limited number of readers at one time, but Hoopla allows an unlimited number of simultaneous readers). If you get an e-version, please contact Mr. Jeff for the reading guide (jeffrey.coster@montgomerycountymd.gov). Even if you are not able to finish the reading, please come anyway and see if No Shelf Control might just be the place for you! The book for the January 15 meeting will be handed out at this meeting, and then available to pick up from the Connie Morella Library by anyone who missed it.
