Join us for a 3 session course on Linux for adults. This course is designed for those with intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Linux, the operating system that powers the entire internet, all supercomputers, the International Space Station (ISS), as well as card-readers, car computers, smartphones, and smart devices. It stands out as the most flexible and powerful operating system in the world. In this introductory course, we will delve into the unique features of Linux, its main building blocks, and the fundamentals of Linux system administration. This course serves as a springboard for those aspiring to become Linux system administrators. Join us for a 3 session course on Linux. This course is designed for those with intermediate to advanced computer skills. Registration is required. This course is aimed at adults.

In Lecture 1, we will learn how to install Linux on a computer. To understand the installation process, we will have a crash course on computer architecture and the booting process. While installing Linux, we will discover why this operating system is called free and open source and what these words mean.

In Lecture 2, you will learn how to find and install software and why different Linux distributions have different repositories for programs. We will also explore the main user environment, the process of adding and removing users or user groups. You will understand the role of the 'root user', the caution required when operating as the root, and how to acquire root privileges temporarily.

In Lecture 3, we will discover the main parts of the operating system—Linux Anatomy—and start to use the main tool of system administration—the command line interface. We will learn the basis of the Linux file system, why it is so different from the Windows file system, and how to perform simple operations with it. We will learn how to manage processes, see them, and start/stop them.
